Mixing Paint on a Tote Bag

Nov 17

If you’re looking for a creative way to show off your personality on the go,  hand painting a tote bag is a fun project. Mixing 2 year old paint Using acrylic paints and an easel, it’s easy to create a one-of-a-kind, stylish accessory for your day-to-day life. To get started, gather your supplies: a tote bag, an easel, acrylic paints and brushes, and a drop cloth or newspaper to protect the work surface.

Before you pick up a brush, make sure to decide on your design. Choose a theme or a quote you love and sketch out your plan. Then, select a color palette from your acrylic paints and make sure that all the colors will mix well together. You’ll also want to make sure your paints are fabric friendly if you’re using them for a fabric painting project like this. Add textile medium to your acrylic paints before applying them to the tote bag to make them machine-washable.

Marking paints for highways, roads and parking lots come in a wide range of formulations to meet stringent DOT requirements regarding dry times, volatile organic compounds and durability. Regardless of the specifics, they all require thorough mixing prior to application, particularly if solids settle during transport and storage. There are a variety of pail mixer product formats to assist with this task, including heavy-duty top-mounted electric or pneumatic mixers that attach to the outside of the container and provide high-torque mixing with 9" two-bladed impellers. For larger volumes, there are a number of drum mixer products to consider as well.

Intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) are common containers for transporting and storing paints and chemical products, although their cubic shape can present challenges for efficient mixing. However, for relatively thin formulations with low viscosity and solids content, economical direct-drive IBC tote mixers are often ideal.

For heavier bodied traffic paints and other coatings, there are also IBC bracket-mount mixers available. These models offer the same features as direct-drive mixers for totes, but can be adjusted to handle varying liquid densities. INDCO offers several BGTC series gear-drive IBC mixers to meet this need, which can be purchased in air, electric or variable-speed hydraulic operation as needed by the operational environment and available utilities.

Once your tote is finished, allow it to dry overnight before use. Resist the temptation to handle it until it is completely dry, as this can smudge and mar the beautiful artwork you’ve created. Then, sling your personalized canvas tote over your shoulder and go show off this spring and summer.
